Children & Nature Movement Spans Six Continents

In addition to having 72 grassroots campaigns and hundreds of members in many parts of North America, the Children & Nature Movement includes clubs, groups, programs, and events around the globe, with ever-increasing numbers of people joining in.

NatureWize in Guiyang,Guizhou, China, just hosted a brunch and litter-pick up event for April Awareness Month. A program in London and South Africa, called clouddog, exposes inner city students to environmental and conservation experiences.

An upcoming program in Santiago, Chile, Greening Childhood Play on May 4, will explore the benefits of play in nature. In Puerto Montt, Chile, the Tenio Planting Initiative is creating an exciting educational campground.

A new nature club called Bringing the Wild Back into the City has formed in Dunedin, New Zealand. Australia is home to many nature clubs, programs and activities and, of course, just hosted the Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress, among other events.

Europe is a hotbed of Movement activity. There are members on the C&NN discussion forum from the U.K., Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands. There is such an active base in Scotland that they have their own group on the discussion forum, Scotland’s Nature Network, headed by Juliet Robertson, a teacher and outdoor learning consultant with CreativeSTAR Learning.

The C&NN discussion forum is also home to a videographer in the Philippines, a parent in Japan, a park designer in Spain, an environmental activist in India, and an expedition leader in Kenya.
