Sara, at the end of the new edition of "Last Child in the Woods," there's a list of questions for families, classrooms, book groups and communities. Hope that helps you, and thanks for work you're doing.

Dear Richard,
You inspire me. I am on a mission to turn every child onto being a duck. Like the water rolls off the back of a duck, so too will the negative comments and actions received by children on a daily basis that chips away at their self-esteem. That’s what my business, “Be a Duck,” is all about.
After reading about you and your efforts to preserve outside play and saving children from NDD, I would like the opportunity to speak with you regarding my program. I would love to add an aspect to my self-esteem building program that would incorporate some of your outdoor passion.
I am a firm believer that children belong outside and getting dirty. I’m fortunate enough to live in a beautiful community that has wonderful parks and trails throughout. Our backyard has a brook where my children often play, find fossils and lose their boots.
Please contact me. I would love the opportunity to speak with you.
Sincerely,
Janeen Yodakis

Hi Richard,

My name is Sara Mitchell and I am an Undergraduate Honor's Student at Colorado State University. Richard Louv's book inspired the theme of my senior's honors thesis which I am working on at the present moment. I am trying to encourage schools to incorporate more outdoor education in the classroom and as part of that I am going to interview teachers and students alike. After that, I'm not sure, but I'm hoping to gain some insight from the interviews. I was just wondering if you had any advice for me or some examples of questions you asked when you yourself did research. I would very much appreciate it!

Sincerely,

Sara Mitchell

Rich: I think you and those interested in the movement to get more kids involved in outdoors activities would be interested in this book:
Saving Sailing
The Story of Choices, Families, Time Commitments
and How We Can Create a Better Future
by Nicholas D. Hayes
It builds a case for choosing how to spend free time better, using it to seek quality outdoors experiences with families and friends through lifelong pastimes like sailing . . . and similar recreational / cultural activities that thrive on lifelong, multi-generational models. For more, can check out the Saving Sailing website, with lots of ideas and discussion for folks trying to plan programs for youth.

I have been a part of sharing nature with students for over 26years here at Dunn School. I have developed a leadership program/stewerdship program for students in grades 6th through 12th.

A question I have is there any recent research as to the amount of time spent in the woods to instill the message of wilderness and nature and how it changes one life and perspective.

To get a better understanding of the Dunn outdoor education Program go to the website, then to academics and then to outdoor education.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
