Campaign
Statewide Campaign
Houston, Texas United States
This campaign is Statewide.
The Texas Children in Nature Coalition unites over 60 organizations across the state interested in connecting children with nature and sharing resources. Members are actively sharing the message of the importance of play in nature in their many programs. Major projects so far include development of a "Life's better outside" campaign, Green Ribbon Schools Recognition program and creating regional guides to local nature opportunities. A Pediatric Obesity Tool Kit developed by the Texas Pediatric Society offers medical professionals guides for assessing and assisting families. A feature of the tool kit includes a prescription for outdoor play. A new Texas Partnership for Children in Nature, a public-private partnership requested by a bipartisan set of legislators, will create a strategic plan for increasing opportunities for children to connect with nature, learn outdoors and better understand Texas's natural resources. The plan is due in November 2010. Members of the Coalition include nature centers, parks, governmental and non-governmental organizations and professionals from all walks of life. We welcome participation through our online network or at meetings in Austin.
