Camp Helps Calgary Students Develop Connection with Nature

Getting out of the classroom and into a forest is an increasingly important activity for city slicker students, says Nestor Kelba, general manager of Camp Kiwanis just west of Calgary. "When they're working in nature, everything is relevant," says the former teacher, who organizes overnight outdoor education trips for Calgary schools. "When you're studying a tree, you're looking right at it. At night, they're not looking at artificial stars in a planetarium -they're looking at the actual stars."
