Get your wellies and glue sticks at the ready this February half term as the hugely popular Children's Nature Week returns to Three Rivers, with brand new, exciting activities to keep young residents amused.
Now in its fourth year, the annual week of nature-themed events is organised by Three Rivers District Council in partnership with other local organisations and groups. Most of the activities are free, so read on for details of what's on offer from 11-15 February.
This year's events include the hands-on Reptile Roadshow, where youngsters will have the chance to get up close and personal with members of the Reptile Kingdom, plus a fun-packed cinema screening of popular children's film Over the Hedge. There will be nature arts and crafts sessions on offer too, as well as bird-box building, fun days at the Batchworth Lock Centre and Three Rivers Museum, plus special animal storytimes for younger children at Hertfordshire Libraries. A guided wildlife wander with Watford Piscators and activity sessions at RES Kings Langley will also be on offer.
Councillor Chris Whately-Smith, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Community, said:
"We are delighted to bring Children's Nature Week to local families again this year. There are plenty of events to choose from and we hope young residents will have loads of fun, whilst also learning about the importance of nature and the environment."
Residents can visit www.threerivers.gov.uk to download details of what's on, or contact the Leisure department on 01923 779392 for a leaflet. Many events must be booked in advance and spaces are limited, so residents are advised to act quickly to avoid disappointment. Unless otherwise stated, events are open to children under 13 and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Children's Nature Week has been organised by Three Rivers District Council in partnership with Hertfordshire Libraries, Three Rivers Museum of Local History, Friends of Watersmeet Film Society, Batchworth Lock Centre, RES Kings Langley, and Watford Piscators.

As part of our ongoing efforts to build the movement, the Children & Nature Network has published two new resources for leaders, organizers, and participants at the local, national, and international levels:

An annotated bibliography of 20 premier studies focusing on the children and nature connection.
