New York’s Brandwein Nature Learning Preserve Helps Reconnect People with Nature About 90 people attended the ceremony for the 32-acre Brandwein Nature Learning Preserve on Minisink Turnpike, said John Padalino, president emeritus of the Paul F-Brandwein Institute. Padalino said the ceremony caps a five-year project that saw serious setbacks last year when floods from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee did between $40,000 and $50,000 worth of damage to trails and culverts. The project cost about $300,000, Padalino said. "It washed out about 40 percent of the trails," said Padalino of the two storms.
