Outdoor play has major benefits for the development of young children. Recognising this, the Wildlife Trusts are calling for every child in the UK to spend one hour outside in nature, every day, as part of the school curriculum.
Commissioned by the Wildlife Trusts, researchers at the Institute of Education at UCL have conducted one of the largest ever studies to look into the effects of regular outdoor activities on children's wellbeing. To do so, they used a group of over 450 primary school children aged eight or nine-years-old.
