Clean Water Partnership Schools Program
A pilot program helps one public school district treat stormwater runoff through green schoolyards
This collaboration between Clean Water Partnership (CWP) and Prince George’s County Public Schools ensures federal stormwater standards are met, while fostering new generations of water quality protectors and managers. During the pilot, 18 schools were selected for schoolyard transformation and stormwater collection. These sites are also used as teaching tools for the district’s more than 15,000 students. Stormwater management is one potential avenue for funding districtwide green schoolyard projects that also provide opportunities for children to connect with and learn about the natural environment.
