Dr. Lawson is a pediatrician at Duke Children’s Primary Care and has been a Children & Nature Network Member since Spring, 2020.
“I’m a general pediatrician with interests in integrative medicine, narrative medicine and whole person well-being inclusive of patients and colleagues, from students to faculty. I have an ‘ecological’ perspective and approach to care, which seeks to understand and consider the whole person. Supporting efforts that reinforce the connection between children and nature is essential for a number of reasons, including sound nutrition, our knowledge of the benefits of time spent in nature to well-being, and the relationship between climate change and health. Humanity and the natural world are fundamentally interconnected; we must acknowledge and care for our shared relationship. My family and I are also deeply grateful for our time spent in the natural world and its gifts,” says Dr. Lawson.
Dr. Lawson became a member of Children in Nature Network in order to build relationships and to find opportunities to work together with like-minded practitioners. Her recent projects include leading interdisciplinary dialogues considering, “Health as an Ecosystem – Expanding Our Imaginations of Health,” which has led to currently planning a seminar series on the topic of Climate Change, Health and Social Justice and Responsibility.
